Baoding in Hebei

The ancient lotus garden in Baoding

Baoding is a prefecture-level city located in the east of Hebei district on flat plains, to the east of the Taihang Mountains, around 140 kilometers south of Beijing, and nearly halfway between Beijing and the capital of the district Shijiazhuang.

The city contains notable historic sites. There can be found a historic provincial governor’s mansion and a beautiful ancient lotus garden.

The Taihang Mountains extends over 400 km from the north to the south. The name of Shanxi district (West of the Mountains), is derived from its location west of this mountain range, as is the name of Shandong district (East of the Mountains).

In the hills to the northwest of Baoding there are the Mancheng Han Tombs, near the suburb of Mancheng.
